Kids Podiatry & Orthotics

Children's feet are different from adult feet—they're still developing and changing. What might be normal at one age could be a concern at another. Our podiatrists have extensive experience in paediatric foot care and understand these important developmental milestones.

Our clinics are set up to make kids feel comfortable and at ease. We take the time to explain things in a way children can understand, and we work closely with parents to ensure the best outcomes for your child.

We Accept All Major Health Funds

HICAPS on-the-spot rebates at all clinics. No referral needed.

Common Concerns We Treat

Parents bring their children to see us for a variety of foot and leg concerns. Here are some of the most common issues we help with.

Flat Feet

While flat feet are normal in young children, they should develop an arch as they grow. If flat feet persist or cause pain, we can assess whether treatment is needed.

In-toeing & Out-toeing

Walking with feet turned in or out is common in young children but usually resolves naturally. We can determine if your child's gait pattern is within normal limits or requires intervention.

Growing Pains

Heel pain (Sever's disease) and knee pain (Osgood-Schlatter's) are common in active, growing children. These conditions respond well to appropriate management.

Toe Walking

Some children walk on their toes out of habit, while others may have tightness requiring treatment. We assess the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment.

Sports Injuries

Active kids can experience overuse injuries or acute injuries from sport. Early treatment helps prevent ongoing problems.

Our Assessment Process

We conduct thorough assessments designed specifically for children, taking into account their age, developmental stage, and activity level.

When Should You See a Podiatrist?

It can be hard to know when your child's foot development is normal and when it needs attention. Consider booking an appointment if your child complains of foot, leg, or knee pain, trips or falls frequently, has shoes that wear unevenly, walks on their toes past age 3, or you're simply concerned about their feet or walking pattern. Early assessment gives peace of mind and catches any issues before they become problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's no minimum age. If you have concerns about your child's feet or walking, bring them in for an assessment. We commonly see children from around 4 years old, but can assess younger children if needed.
Flat feet are completely normal in babies and toddlers. Most children develop an arch by age 6. If flat feet persist beyond this age or cause symptoms, we recommend an assessment to determine if treatment would help.
Not all children who see us need orthotics. Many foot concerns in children resolve naturally or respond to exercises and footwear changes. We only recommend orthotics when they're genuinely needed.
Children's orthotics typically need replacing every 12-18 months due to foot growth and wear. We'll advise you when it's time to update your child's devices.
Absolutely! We design orthotics to fit in sports shoes so your child can stay active. In fact, orthotics often help children perform better and more comfortably in sport.
Good children's shoes should have a firm heel counter, flexibility at the toe, secure fastening (laces or velcro), and appropriate length and width for your child's foot. Avoid hand-me-down shoes as they've moulded to another child's foot.
